Adult & Pediatric Dental Checkups

What is general dentistry?

General dentistry refers to all the preventive and restorative procedures and treatments aimed at keeping your teeth and gums as healthy as possible. Treatments can include routine visits and cleaning, fillings, restorations like crowns and bridges, sealants and fluoride treatments, oral cancer screenings, and guidance on home care.

What happens during an adult visit?

Adult visits begin with a discussion of any symptoms or issues you may be experiencing, followed by a visual exam and a thorough cleaning to remove plaque and tartar on the tooth surface and below the gum line. You may also receive feedback on your brushing and flossing techniques to help you care for your teeth between visits. During the exam, the dentist will evaluate each tooth, looking for signs of disease, decay or damage that need to be repaired. In some cases, x-rays may be ordered to see below the gums, and an oral cancer screening will also be performed. Once your evaluation is complete, treatment recommendations will be made to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

What happens during a pediatric visit?

Pediatric visits begin are important for lots of reasons: First, they enable us to evaluate how your child's teeth and bite are developing so problems can be addressed as soon as possible. Second, they allow us to look for signs of decay in their earliest stages before serious damage has occurred and when treatment is still simple and straightforward. Third, they provide an opportunity to look for problem areas in brushing and flossing and to offer guidance about how to properly care for teeth between visits so the stay healthy. And of course, cleanings also help prevent decay and gum disease that can damage both “baby” and adult teeth – even before they emerge.
